Welcome to Hachemit's kingdom

In Jordan, a wonderful country full of geographic contrasts, the traveller will be able to enjoy a great variety of landscapes and hobbies. Being a country where temperatures are always pleasant and there is no winter, both its geographical and cultural interests make it the perfect destination. The relaxed Muslim way of life on this side of the border contrasts with the practical mind of their Israeli neighbours.   It is not difficult to understand why the differences between these two worlds seem sometimes insuperable, something which is specially obvious in the conglomeration of cultures, separated by neighbourhoods, of Israel's old capital city, Jerusalem.

Amman and Jerash

.Every week, several direct flights link Madrid with Amman, the Jordanian capital, a colourful and busy city full of contrasts where the old and the new intermingle.

Houses in Amman are built on the more than nineteen hills that make up the city, covering them with a mantle of ochre and whitish shades. Contemplating the sunset while visiting one of the best preserved Roman theatres in the world, which is in the very heart of the city, is an absolutely memorable experience. Full of life, the modern capital of the kingdom alternates its luxury hotels and restaurants with its big shops and markets. Amman is worth a day's and night's visit at least. Besides, it is the perfect stop to reach the wonderful Greco-Roman city of Jerash.
After a day's visit to Jerash, the "Pompeii of the East", which is considered to be the best preserved city of the Decapolis - a confederation of 10 Roman cities from the 1st century before Christ -, we will spend another day visiting some of the castles in the semiarid and steppe landscape of eastern Jordan, such as Kerak and Shobak, which constitute very important traces of Roman, Byzantine and Omeyan castles. Following the road, we will reach Mount Nebo, where Moses's grave is believed to be and from where we will be able to make out, in the fog, the Dead Sea and admire the whole Valley of the River Jordan. In this strange paradise we will take a break to float on the dense, saline and curative waters of the Dead Sea and plaster ourselves with wet mud full of therapeutic minerals.   Surrounded by a ghostly landscape and 400 metres below sea level, its blue waters have extraordinary properties. Floating like an insect on its waters is one of those experiences you never forget.

Petra

Even though you only visited Petra, it would be worth travelling all the way to Jordan. Petra deserves one or two days of a relaxed trip, getting into everyone of its caves and observing the shades of the sand in constant erosion.

For two thousand years, the pink Nabathean city has sheltered the Arabs, Nabatheans, nomads and bedouins coming from the north of Arabia. Its palaces, sculpted in rock, seem to form part of a huge set. The journey to the area around Al Siq can be made on foot, but also riding a horse or a camel. Al Siq is the beautiful defile which leads to the treasures of Petra: hundreds of palaces, caves, high temples, royal tombs, a Roman theatre, markets and a great many wonders.

Wadi Rhum Aqaba

But still we have a lot to see of the country and, as we head south, we have two wonderful destinations awaiting us. Wadi Rhum, the southern entrance to the Jordanian desert, is one of them. Homeland of the bedouins, we can only get there by jeep or camel. Its landscape reminds of the lunar landscape, and it was here where most of Lawrence of Arabia was shot.

Once we have finished the trip to the desert, the most pleasant destination of all is waiting for us: Aqaba. Aqaba is the gate leading to the magic of the Red Sea, which, with one of the most beautiful coral reefs in the world and dozens of species of multicoloured fish, makes diving an unrepeatable experience. Here we can rest and have as much fun as we want. Its beautiful virgin beaches fulfil the expectations of the most demanding traveller.

Jordan will captivate you with the hospitality and kindness of its peoples, who go out of their way to help you and make friends with you; its delicious gastronomy, which is worthy of the most demanding gourmets; its luxury hotel complexes; its sunsets and dawns at the mysterious and beautiful Wadi Rum... You cannot imagine its thousand and one appeals, its thousand and one experiences...

Its borders with Israel and Syria, and its proximity to Lebanon or the United Arab Emirates, make it possible to plan new visits to such interesting cities as Jerusalem, Tel Aviv and Jaffa, Bethlehem -in Palestinian territory-, Beirut -in Lebanon-, Palmira and Damascus -in Syria-, ...
